Log Cabin Wedding Gift from Grandma 2000

Sharing My Dream

It all started when I was just a little girl playing under the quilts grandma would have set up in her house.

I’m Aimee (Cabot) Viehmann, and little did I know Grandma would pass the quilting gene on to me. I was lucky enough to grow up next door to my grandma and spent countless hours by her side. We would bake cookies, can pickles, play cards and help her create quilts.

When my husband, Donnie, and I got married, we were gifted one of the many quilts grandma would make. Later she would pull me aside and show me stitches that I contributed as a little girl. I fell in love with that quilt and was determined to start on my quilt someday.

Fast-forward to 2014 when I FINALLY made time to create my first quilt. It was a chevron pattern, and oh boy, did I learn a lot piecing that first quilt. I seriously don’t think any points matched up, but I was proud of it. My next quilt was a gift to my husband (camouflage, of course). I love the design work, color infusion, and the fabric’s feel as I cut and piece together a quilt. It’s a combination of history and art that makes sense to me. I often wonder what grandma would think about today’s colors and patterns.

In the fall of 2020, I decided it was my time to bring Hermann, MO, a fabric store. I hope to continue learning more about the latest fabric trends and designs and exploring the cultural thread of quilting. So needless to say, I’m totally geeking-out on fabrics and quilts and having so much fun. .

They say if you love what you do, it never feels like work. I agree 100% and can’t wait to share my dream with you!

Did you know?

  • My favorite thing about Hermann is how the community rallies around each other when help is needed.
  • I’m told my superpower is organizing.
  • I love happy hours!
  • I absolutely hate snakes!
  • While working at my computer or stitching at my sewing machine, My go-to Spotify playlist includes a little bit of everything. From P!nk and Lady Gaga to Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats to Chris Stapleton and even some head-banging alternative 90s rock, gotta love it all.
